What Moves the TND to INR Rate?

What Moves the TND to INR Rate?

The Tunisian dinar is managed against a basket of currencies and is not freely convertible outside the country. In practice it tracks the euro closely, so most of what looks like dinar movement against the dollar is really the euro moving. The chart above shows how that played out over the past year.

  • The Managed Euro Link The central bank guides the dinar against a basket weighted toward the euro, and the euro rate has stayed within a narrow range for long stretches. This means TND to INR behaves more like a euro cross than a freely floating one.
  • Tourism Receipts Tourism, mostly from Europe, is one of the two largest sources of foreign currency and has been growing. A strong season eases pressure on reserves and gives the central bank more room.
  • Remittances from Abroad Tunisians working in Europe send home a large share of national foreign exchange. Together with tourism, these flows are what have rebuilt reserve cover in recent years.
  • The Trade Deficit Tunisia imports far more goods than it exports, and that gap has been widening even as tourism and remittances grow. The merchandise trade deficit is the core source of external pressure.
  • External Debt and Financing Tunisia has been servicing heavy external repayments without an active IMF programme, relying instead on domestic banks and its own reserves. That narrow funding base is the main long term risk to the managed rate.
  • Convertibility Limits The dinar cannot legally be taken out of Tunisia in quantity and trades thinly abroad. Merchants inside the country are required to price and accept payment in dinars, so travellers convert on arrival rather than before departure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About TND to INR Currency Conversion

What does the TND to INR rate on this page mean?

It shows how many Indian Rupees one unit of Tunisian Dinar is currently worth for different products offered by BookMyForex. It is different from the interbank or mid-market rate. An interbank rate is the wholesale rate banks use to trade with each other, and it is the reference point that every retail product rate is built from. Enter any amount in the converter above to see its rupee value depending on the product selected. You can also see the interbank rates on our page.

Will I get the exact interbank rate if I exchange Tunisian Dinar today?

Not exactly. The interbank rate is a reference, not a retail rate. The rate you actually receive depends on whether you are buying or selling TND, which city you are in, and how much you are exchanging. Switch the converter to buying or selling rates for a closer estimate, and check the final rate on the order screen before you confirm.

Why does the TND to INR rate change throughout the day?

Tunisian Dinar and the Rupee both trade continuously on global markets, so the pair reprices all day. Interest rate announcements, inflation data, oil prices, trade balances and central bank intervention all push the rate in one direction or the other. Rates on this page refresh frequently to stay current.

Can I sell leftover Tunisian Dinar and get Rupees?

Yes, for currencies BookMyForex deals in. You can sell unused foreign currency notes back and receive Rupees in your bank account. Select your city and choose the sell option to see the live selling rate. A few less-traded currencies are not accepted for encashment, so confirm availability for Tunisian Dinar in your city before booking.

Is there a time limit for converting unspent Tunisian Dinar back to Rupees?

Yes. Under RBI rules, a resident returning from a trip abroad must surrender unspent foreign exchange to an authorised dealer within 180 days of returning to India. You may retain foreign currency notes and travellers cheques worth up to USD 2,000 or the equivalent beyond that period. Anything above that should be encashed within the 180-day window.

Is TCS charged when I convert TND to INR?

No. TCS applies to outward transactions under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, such as buying foreign currency or remitting money abroad. Selling foreign currency and receiving Rupees is an inward conversion, so no TCS is collected.

What documents do I need to sell TND notes?

Selling needs fewer documents than buying. You usually need only your passport and PAN card, with no air ticket or Outward Remittance Application (A2 cum LRS Declaration). If you brought a large amount of cash into India, you may also need the Currency Declaration Form you filed with customs on arrival. That applies if your notes alone came to more than USD 5,000, or your notes and travellers cheques together came to more than USD 10,000.

How will I get paid when I sell Tunisian Dinar?

You are paid once your notes have been verified and the order is processed. Bank transfer is the standard route, so keep your account details ready at checkout. Cash payout is possible in some cases but is subject to regulatory limits, so confirm what applies to your amount before you book.

What if my leftover TND is on a forex card?

There is no need to sell it. A BookMyForex forex card balance never expires, so you can keep it for your next international trip. You can also unload the balance free of charge, and the amount is refunded to your bank account within 4 to 5 working days. Bank transfer is the only unload route.

Can I lock the rate before I sell Tunisian Dinar?

Yes. The rate lock facility holds your rate for up to three working days. It needs a refundable deposit of 2% of the order value, which you get back in full when the order is complete. It is useful if you expect the rupee to strengthen before you can hand over your notes.

What if my passport was issued in a foreign country? Will I be treated as an Indian resident?

Yes, if you can confirm and provide evidence of residing in India for more than 182 days in the preceding financial year. You will be asked to submit all pages of your passport to validate your immigration stamps and timeline.
