What does the INR to EUR rate on this page mean?

It shows how much Euro one Indian Rupee buys on the interbank market right now. Because the rate is quoted per rupee, the figure can look unusual. For a stronger currency it is a small decimal, and for a weaker one it can be a much larger number. Enter the rupee amount you plan to spend in the converter above to see what you would receive.

Is this the rate I will pay when I buy Euro?

No. This is the interbank benchmark, not a retail rate. When you actually buy EUR, the buying rate applies, and it is slightly less favourable. Switch the converter to buying rates and select your city to see today's figure. The rate confirmed on the order screen is the one that applies to your transaction.

Why is the buying rate different from the rate shown here?

The interbank rate is the wholesale rate banks charge each other when they trade very large amounts. A retail order costs more to handle, because the currency has to be sourced, your documents checked, and the risk of the rate moving covered until the order settles. The difference between the two rates pays for that. BookMyForex keeps it narrow by comparing rates across hundreds of RBI-authorised dealers.

Is TCS charged when I buy Euro?

It can be. Buying foreign currency is an outward transaction under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, so TCS may apply once your total purchases and remittances in the financial year cross the threshold. The rate depends on the purpose, and education and medical expenses are treated differently from travel. TCS is not a fee. It is tax collected in advance, which you can adjust against your tax liability or claim as a refund when you file your return. See current TCS rules and rates for the limits in force.

How much Euro can I buy?

Two limits apply. Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, you can spend or remit up to USD 250,000 or the equivalent in a financial year, across notes, card loads, transfers and other outward payments combined. Within that, cash notes are capped at USD 3,000 or the equivalent per trip for most destinations, and the rest can be loaded on a forex card. A few destinations and pilgrimages have higher cash limits.

Do I need a confirmed travel plan to buy EUR?

For travel, yes. Foreign currency is sold against a stated purpose. You will be asked for your passport, travel dates and ticket, plus a visa if your destination needs one. You cannot buy notes or load a card just to hold foreign currency as an investment. Study abroad, medical treatment and employment are also allowed, each with its own documents.

What documents do I need to buy EUR?

You will need five documents for most orders. These are your PAN card, your passport (front and back pages), your air ticket, your visa where one is required, and a signed A2 cum LRS declaration form. Your purpose may add one more. Students need a student visa and employees need an employment visa. Emigrants need proof of emigration or residency, and business travellers need a LERMS letter. Everything is uploaded online at checkout.

How do I pay for my EUR order?

You can pay by net banking, NEFT, RTGS or UPI. Payment must come from a bank account held in your own name, because the purchase is recorded against your PAN under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme. Payments from third-party accounts are not accepted.

How soon will I get my Euro?

If you pay and upload your documents before 1 PM, you can get same-day delivery in select cities. This runs every day for currency notes and Monday to Friday for forex cards, but not on holidays. Orders placed after 1 PM, or in other cities, take longer. The order screen shows when your order will arrive.

What if I don't spend all my Euro?

Unused currency notes can be sold back for rupees. Under RBI regulations, notes and travellers cheques worth more than USD 2,000 must be sold within 180 days of returning to India. If the money is on a BookMyForex forex card, the balance never expires, so you can keep it for your next trip. Switch the converter to selling rates to see what you would receive.

What if my passport was issued in a foreign country? Will I be treated as an Indian resident?

Yes, if you can confirm and provide evidence of residing in India for more than 182 days in the preceding financial year. You will be asked to submit all pages of your passport to validate your immigration stamps and timeline.
