Best International Money Transfer Exchange Rates Live

The rates on this page apply to sending money abroad by bank transfer. They are live remittance rates, updated through the day, and they are the rates used when you transfer funds to an overseas bank account.

Every rate begins with the interbank rate, which is the rate banks trade at between themselves and the benchmark figure you see on Google. What you actually receive depends on the margin your provider adds on top. Banks typically add 2 to 3 per cent, and most of that margin sits inside the exchange rate rather than appearing as a separate fee.

BookMyForex quotes close to the interbank rate and shows the margin upfront, so you can compare the live rate for your currency before committing to anything.

Because rates move whenever currency markets are open, the rate you see now may not be the rate you finally pay. The Rate Freeze feature holds your chosen rate for three working days against a small refundable deposit of 2%.

If Your Wire Transfer Gets Rejected

  • Why payments get rejected

Payments can fail due to incorrect beneficiary information, missing documents, missing payment references, or specific receiving bank requirements.

  • You will be notified

If a transaction is rejected, you will be informed of the exact cause and provided with clear instructions on what to do next.

  • Swift refund process & timeline

Eligible refunds are initiated immediately and typically reflect back in your account within 4 to 5 working days.

Documents Required for International Wire Transfer from India

The documents required for your international wire transfer depend on the purpose of remittance. Three documents are mandatory for all transfers:

  • PAN card
  • KYC and Address Proof (Aadhaar / Passport / Voter card)
  • Outward Remittance Application (A2 cum LRS Declaration)

Additional documents by purpose:

Required Documents:

• Admission letter / University offer letter
• Student's valid passport (if remitter is a close relative)

Why Money Transfer Rates Differ

You may notice that the rate here differs from the rate on our currency exchange page. That difference is expected. Sending money by wire, buying currency notes, and loading a forex card are three separate products, and each one is priced on its own.

Currency notes carry the highest cost. Physical cash has to be stocked, moved, and insured, and the rate reflects that handling. A wire transfer moves money between banks electronically, so the margin on a remittance is usually thinner.

Timing explains the rest. Currency markets trade on weekdays, so rates move through the day and hold steady over weekends and public holidays. A rate shown on Sunday reflects Friday's close, and it can shift once markets reopen.

TCS on International Money Transfers from India

As per the Union Budget 2026, Tax Collected at Source (TCS) applies to outward remittances under LRS based on the purpose and amount of transfer. Here are the applicable TCS rates:

● Education via education loan: 0% TCS (any amount)
● Self-funded education & medical treatment: Nil up to ₹10 lakh; 2% above ₹10 lakh
● All other outward remittances: Nil up to ₹10 lakh; 20% above ₹10 lakh

Note: TCS is not a final tax, it can be claimed as credit when filing your ITR. BookMyForex auto-calculates applicable TCS at checkout so there are no surprises.

What You Pay on Top of the Outward Remittance Exchange Rate

Component
What it is
Exchange rate margin
The difference between the interbank rate and the rate you are quoted. This is the largest cost in most transfers and the number genuinely worth comparing between providers.

Transfer fee
A flat service charge applied to the transfer. Some providers waive this on smaller amounts or as part of a promotional offer.
GST on conversion
Charged on the assessed value of the conversion service rather than on the amount you send, which keeps it small. The slabs are set by law and apply equally to every authorised provider.
Correspondent bank charges
Intermediary banks on the payment route may deduct a charge before the money is credited. Confirm whether these are covered or deducted from the amount.
Recipient bank charges
The receiving bank abroad may apply its own credit charge, which sits outside the sender’s control.
TCS
Collected on remittances above the annual threshold. The applicable rate depends on your declared purpose and funding source, and it can be set off against your income tax.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About International Money Transfer Rates

What exchange rate does this page show?

The table shows live rates for sending money abroad from India. They are linked to the interbank market, which is the wholesale market where banks trade currency with each other, and they refresh continuously through the day as that market moves. We display the rate before you commit, so you can compare it against your own bank first. The rate you see is the rate your transfer is booked at, provided you complete the booking while it remains live.

Why is your rate different from the rate I see on Google?

Google shows the mid-market rate. That is a reference point halfway between the buying and selling price in the interbank market, and it is not a rate any consumer can actually transact at. Our rate comes from the same market, so the two sit close together. Small gaps appear because the market moves every few seconds, and because a live booking rate is a real tradable price rather than a reference. If your bank quotes a rate far below the Google figure, that gap is a margin, not market movement.

How often do these rates change?

They change all day. The currency market moves continuously, so the figures in this table refresh alongside it. Movement is fastest during Indian banking hours, when the rupee market is most active, and much quieter overnight and at weekends. A rate you saw this morning may not be the rate available this evening. That is why the number itself matters less than whether you are able to hold on to it.

Can I lock in today's rate?

Yes. Our Rate Freeze feature holds a live rate for up to three days while you arrange your documents and payment. You leave a refundable advance deposit of 2% of the total amount to hold it. A move in the market between booking and payment then does not change what you pay. Most banks offer nothing comparable, so a bank quote is generally valid only for the moment you receive it.

Does the rate shown include fees and TCS?

No. The rate converts your rupees into foreign currency, and the charges sit on top of it. A bank fee of ₹320 plus GST applies, and Nostro charges of ₹1,180 may apply depending on the route. TCS may also apply once your remittances cross ₹10 lakh in a financial year, though that is a tax you can reclaim rather than a cost. The booking screen shows the full rupee amount before you confirm, so compare that figure rather than the rate alone.

Why is the money transfer rate different from your currency notes and forex card rates?

Because the three products cost different amounts to deliver. A wire transfer is an electronic instruction between banks, so it sits closest to the interbank rate. Currency notes have to be sourced, insured, moved and handed to you, and that physical cost shows up in the rate. A forex card sits between the two. So the rate for sending money abroad is usually better than the rate for buying the same currency as cash.

What is a TT rate?

TT stands for telegraphic transfer, the banking term for moving money electronically between two banks. A TT rate is the rate applied to that particular kind of transfer, and it is what this page displays. It is normally better than a currency notes rate, for the reason described in the previous answer. If your bank quotes you a TT selling rate, that is the figure to compare against the rate shown here.

Can the rate change after I book, before the money reaches my recipient?

Not once your rate is fixed. If you have paid for the order, or frozen the rate with the deposit, your rate is locked, and subsequent market movement will not change what you pay or what your recipient receives in foreign currency. What can still vary is the amount that finally lands, if an intermediary bank abroad deducts a processing charge along the way. That is a deduction from the sum transferred, not an alteration of your rate.

When is the best time to send money abroad?

There is no reliable answer, and anyone offering you one is guessing. Currency markets respond to events nobody can schedule, so a rate that looks good today may look ordinary next week and excellent the week afterwards. What you can control is the margin you pay, and whether you hold a good rate when you see one. Watch the rate, and freeze it when it suits you, rather than waiting for a peak that may never arrive.

Why is my bank's rate worse than the rate on this page?

Because most providers add a margin to the market rate and present the result as their rate. That margin is commonly 2-4%, and because it sits inside the rate rather than appearing as a separate fee, it is easily missed. A transfer advertised as free can still cost you more than one with a visible fee. The way to compare is to ignore the fee line and check how many rupees leave your account for the foreign currency your recipient actually gets.

Can bank holidays affect my international money transfer?

Yes. Banking holidays, including Saturdays and Sundays, in India or the destination country can affect processing timelines. Our team helps you identify applicable holidays in advance so you can plan your payment accordingly and avoid unnecessary delays.

What if my passport was issued in a foreign country? Will I be treated as an Indian resident?

Yes, if you can confirm and provide evidence of residing in India for more than 182 days in the preceding financial year. You will be asked to submit all pages of your passport to validate your immigration stamps and timeline.
