It’s easy to count on a travel agent to take care of your air-ticket and hotel bookings when you plan a trip abroad…but that may not be the best way to save money, irrespective of the “great discounts” they offer. The best way is do work smart and do it yourself….that too keeping in mind some ‘smart’ travel tips.
The next time you want to book your hotel or need to pay for your car rental abroad, forget the travel agent and spare some time to do the needful yourself. What you need to know is that it works out to be more far more economical to pay in the local currency of that country. To do so, you simply need to ensure that you view the hotel tariffs in the host country’s local currency and not in INR….You will be amazed when you calculate how much you can save!
A friend of mine recently saved 40 Euros booking a hotel in Amsterdam because he booked it in Euros rather than Rupees! You can actually save a good deal of money if you do your hotel or car bookings abroad in the local currency of that country.
However, the big question is how to make the payment in advance for your hotel booking/ rental car in that country’s local currency?
Simple! The smart way – use a prepaid forex card… After booking your tickets, buy a prepaid travel card so you are armed with the perfect tool to pay in local currency of your destination country! Make bookings with ease and even use the same card for actual payments whilst you travel there!
Even better, in case you are traveling to multiple countries, buy a multi-currency card – a single card that can be swiped in all the destinations to pay in the local currency of each nation individually!! This way you can SAVE BIG!!!
A great way to save money on your international trip…Isn’t it?
